Why I Started Midwest Excavating and Land Services

Hi! My name is Patrick Olson.

I’ve been fascinated with excavating and dirt-moving equipment for as long as I can remember. When I was eight years old, I’d visit the town shop where my dad worked and spend hours checking out the machines. I’d climb into the equipment, turn on the lights, and, on rare occasions, even start them up. That’s when my passion for this work first took hold.

Over the years, I turned that childhood curiosity into a career. I’ve worked with various excavation companies, handling everything from replacing storm drains, water mains, and sewer pipes in Coon Valley to landscaping and forestry clearing in La Crosse. Along the way, I became a licensed electrical contractor in both Iowa and Wisconsin, earning Master licenses in each state. That experience led me to specialize in underground work, often taking on projects that others avoided.

At some point, I realized there was a real need for excavation and land services on a smaller scale—jobs that were too important to be ignored but not big enough for large contractors to take on. That’s what led me to start Midwest Excavating and Land Services.

What Matters to Me

I believe in doing a job right the first time. I believe in showing up when I say I will. And I believe that no matter the size of a project, it deserves the same level of attention and care.

I started this business because I wanted to provide reliable, honest excavation and land services to people who just need straightforward, professional work without the runaround. Whether it’s a homeowner looking to fix a drainage issue, a farmer needing brush cleared, or a contractor needing material hauled, I want them to know they have someone they can count on.
